The voice library

Whose voice reads the line is up to you — pick it in DOTV's voice dialog: a few hundred system voices across three tabs, a row of filters, and the ones you use most favorited so they're right there next time. The way in is the pill with the swap icon on the audio input bar, which shows the voice you're on right now. This section covers how the three tabs and the filter row work, what's on a row, and what happens after you pick.

Three tabs and a row of filters

The dialog splits into three tabs:

  • Voice library — the system voices, 320 of them, covering Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), English, Japanese, Korean and more.
  • My voices — the ones you cloned yourself (see 5.4).
  • Favorites — whatever you starred, drawn from the other two tabs.

Top right has Search (by name) and Filter (by language and gender). The list is paginated, with the pager at the bottom.

What's on a row

One row of the voice listLeft to right: Preview, name, language, gender, Select, Add to favorites — cloned voices get a More button as well.
Left to right: preview, name, language, gender, select, favorite, more.
  • Preview — the leftmost button. It plays a greeting that was synthesized ahead of time, so it costs nothing and there's no wait.
  • Select — clicking the row makes it the current voice and closes the dialog. The one in use reads Selected.
  • Favorite — the star. Favorites follow your account, so they're still there on another machine.
  • More — holds Copy voice ID, for when you need to match one up. Cloned voices get a Remove voice entry below it; system voices have only the copy, and can be neither removed nor renamed.

After you pick

The pill on the input bar takes the name of the voice you chose, and every send from then on uses it. A voice is stored on the node: different nodes on one canvas can each use a different voice, and changing one leaves the rest alone.
