Audio nodes

An AI video needs sound. DOTV's audio node holds a piece of it: narration and lines read out loud, or the voice and background split out of a video. It has no picture, so the card is a half-height wide card, and where the picture would be sits the waveform of that sound. This section covers what's on the card, where the sound comes from, which tools you get with it selected, and what it can feed.

What's on the card

The audio cardA short, wide card: where the frame would be there's the waveform of the sound, with a timecode below it and the duration in the top right of the title.
The one on the left has generated (waveform and timecode), the one on the right is still empty.
  • The waveform — what this sound looks like: where there is sound and where there is silence, at a glance. The button at the right end of the row below plays it right there, with the playhead running along.
  • The timecode — the "00:00 / 00:04" line under the waveform: where playback has got to, then the total length.
  • Duration — the small line at the top right of the title.
  • A draft node that is still empty shows a music note in place of the waveform, with one suggestion worth a try hanging under it: Audio to video.

Where the sound comes from

  • Write the words and have them read out — select the draft node and type the lines in the input bar (see 5.2).
  • Split it out of a video — Audio separation on the video node's toolbar can pull out the voice, the background or the original track, each on its own (see 4.6).
  • Batch voiceover from a script — a shot script can build a whole set of voiceover nodes in one go, one per shot (see 6.6).
  • Agent — just say "read this out" (see 12.1).

The toolbar needs a selection

Select an audio node that has already generated and a toolbar floats above the card, in two groups: Trim and Speed edit this clip in place, Smart split and Custom split cut it into several new ones (all in 5.6), and Download sits at the right end.

The audio node toolbarTrim and Speed each open a bar along the bottom of the card (see 5.6); the last button is Download.

Trim and Speed open a control bar along the bottom edge of the card; the one on the right is Download.

What it can feed

Nothing yet: an audio node has no connection point on its right — no kind of node takes a piece of sound. Drag a wire onto another node anyway and it is turned away, with a line telling you which kinds that node does take (the video editor takes video only, see Chapter 7).

So this sound's destinations are: play it right there on the card, or save it to your machine with Download, the rightmost button on the toolbar.

Try it in DOTVReading only goes so far: open DOTV and make an AI video with the feature this section covers.
