Running a whole group

Twenty shots in a storyboard group means clicking generate twenty times. DOTV's Run group queues up everything in the group that has not been made yet and runs it in one go — each node uses the prompt, model and reference images it holds itself, not one line applied to all of them. This section covers running a group, what happens on screen once it's running, and why special nodes like Smart edit, 3D previz and Frame study have to be run by hand.

Run a group

Select the group and click Run group on the toolbar:

Run groupIt first asks how many nodes are in the group and what they'll cost; on confirm, everything in the group that is waiting or failed starts together.
1 / 2
An empty storyboard image group is selected, with Run group on the toolbar.

It asks first: how many in the group are waiting, and roughly how many credits they will cost. Confirm and the whole group goes off at once — not one after another.

What gets run:

  • Waiting to generate (still empty) — runs;
  • Failed ones — run (so clicking again after a failure retries exactly those; no need to delete them first);
  • Finished ones — left alone. To redo one, select it on its own and regenerate it;
  • Generating ones — left alone; nothing is sent twice;
  • Special nodes (smart edit, 3D previz, frame study) — not counted in that number and not part of the credit estimate, see below.

Once it is running

Stop (1/4)Once it's running, this button turns red and reads Stop, with done / total after it. Click it and nothing further is submitted, while whatever is already running is cancelled one by one and put back to waiting.
Once it is running the button turns into a red Stop with the progress after it.

The button turns into a red Stop with "done / total" after it. The count is read off the nodes' own states, so:

  • You can deselect the group and go do something else; the progress is right when you come back;
  • Videos, which keep running in the background for minutes after they are submitted, are counted correctly too — the count only goes up once one has landed.

Click Stop: anything not yet sent is not sent, anything already running is cancelled one by one and its node goes back to waiting. Whatever was already generated stays.

Nodes in this round carry a small "Running" tag on their title — rerun one on its own and the tag comes off (it is no longer part of this round).

Special nodes run by hand

The last line of the confirmation says "Only generator nodes run — special nodes have to be run by hand." That is exactly what it means: open Smart edit nodes (Chapter 7), 3D previz nodes (Chapter 8) and Frame study nodes and run them yourself. What they want is not a prompt but clips laid out on a timeline, a camera set up in a 3D scene, or a set of ticked-off study angles — firing them off in a batch would mean nothing. Which is why they are not counted as "waiting to generate" either: that number and the credit estimate only ever cover the nodes that can run.
