Trimming

A clip comes out and you only want the few seconds in the middle, or you want the frame a little narrower — in DOTV both live on the video node's toolbar, one for time, one for the picture, with no round trip through an editing app. This section covers cutting a piece out, Reshoot clips and Smart continue, and cropping the frame.

Cutting a piece out

Select the video node and hit Trim on the toolbar:

TrimTrim is about time: click it and a trim bar appears under the frame — drag out the stretch you want to keep.
1 / 2
Trim is the leftmost button on the toolbar.

A trim bar appears under the frame:

The trim bar under the frameDrag the handles at either end to bracket what you keep, previewing live in between. The buttons on the right are Snap to whole seconds, Loop the selection and Shortcuts, then ✕ to leave and ✓ to confirm.
The handles at each end mark what you keep; snapping, looping, shortcuts and confirm are on the right.
  • Drag the handles at either end to bracket what you want to keep. The middle previews as you drag.
  • The two buttons on the right are Snap to whole seconds (handles only land on whole seconds; off by default) and Loop the selection (plays the marked stretch over and over; already on when the trim bar opens). Click either to toggle it.
  • The keyboard is faster: ← → moves the selection, ↑ ↓ grows or shrinks it, hold Shift for fine mode and ⌘/Ctrl for coarse; I and O set the in and out points to the current time; Space plays and pauses, Enter confirms, Esc leaves.
  • Shortcuts on the trim bar brings this table up whenever you need it.

Confirm with ✓ or Enter and the original clip stays put — a new video node appears to its right holding the piece you actually cut.

Reshoot clips and Smart continue

The Reshoot clips ▾ button on the toolbar holds two paths. Both open the same film strip, but the job is not "keep this stretch" — it is "take this stretch and produce a new clip". Confirming drops a draft video node to the right in both cases; what costs credits is the send afterwards:

  • Reshoot clips — click the track a few times to mark several stretches (each click marks one whole stretch of at least 5 seconds, up to 5 at a time; select a stretch to drag its ends or press Delete to remove it). Confirm, and the draft's prompt comes prefilled with one line per stretch carrying its timecode — finish each line with what that stretch should become, then send. The model regenerates the whole clip using the original as reference: the stretches you marked follow your lines, the rest stays as it was. Clips longer than 15 seconds don't fit this path — trim it down with Trim first.
  • Smart continue — mark one stretch (at least 4 seconds; the last 4 seconds are selected for you when it opens). Confirm, and a chip is pinned to the front of the draft's input bar saying which clip's which stretch it continues from — write a line about what happens next and send. Delete the chip and the draft goes back to being an ordinary one.

Cropping the frame

Crop, in the Edit dropdown, is about the picture, not time. Click it, drag a box on the frame, confirm. The node then shrinks to the cropped aspect ratio rather than stretching to fit.

Crop applies in place — no new node. To get back to the original, pull the crop box back out to the full frame.
