Upscale and crop

A storyboard frame that is headed for video generation, or one you want to zoom in on, often isn't sharp enough. DOTV puts the two things that leave the content of the picture alone and change the picture itself in one section: Upscale enlarges the whole image, Crop keeps only part of it. Upscale sits under the Edit dropdown in the node toolbar, Crop in the row of icons to its right; the two take completely different routes — one runs a model and costs credits, the other does neither.

Where they are

The image node toolbarIt only shows when you select an image node that has already generated. Everything in this chapter starts from this bar.
Upscale and Crop are both under the button with the arrow, and there is a separate Crop button beside it.

Upscale

Point at Upscale in the Edit dropdown and the submenu offers two steps: 2x and 4x. Pick one and a node drops onto the canvas to the right of this image and starts running; when it finishes, that is your enlarged version.

  • What gets enlarged is the pixels, not the content — it is putting detail back, not drawing a new picture.
  • Each step lists what it will cost in credits. The factor itself is not what sets the price, the output area is: a small image at 4x can come out cheaper than a big one at 2x. So sometimes the two steps cost the same and sometimes they are far apart, depending on how many pixels you end up with.
  • The original stays where it is, and the result is named "original · HD".

Crop

The row of icons on the right of the toolbar has a Crop button of its own. Click it and a crop box appears on the image; drag the corners to set the area and confirm in the bar along the bottom of the frame.

  • Cropping generates no new image and costs no credits: it only records that this image now shows just this part, and the node reshapes to the cropped aspect ratio.
  • Because it is only a recorded area, you can come back and change it at any time, or go back to the full image — the original was never touched.
  • Unlike upscaling, cropping creates no new node; it changes this node itself.
