Keyboard and gestures

Almost everything on the DOTV canvas has a shortcut. They are all listed in the panel that ships with the product; this section covers how to open it, plus the dozen or so you actually use day to day making AI video — creating nodes, generating, copying with the wires attached, grouping and ungrouping, and the mouse and trackpad gestures.

The panel

Open it from the Keyboard icon on the right of the bottom toolbar. Four groups: Create, Zoom, Pan canvas, Other.

CreateGroup, connect, copy, generate, new node — you can build a whole pipeline with your hands on the keyboard.

The ones you use most

Key What it does
Tab New node (pops up the type menu)
⌘Enter Generate
⌘D Duplicate the selected node together with its edges
⌘C / ⌘V Copy / paste. An image copied from somewhere else pastes straight onto the canvas
⌫ Delete what is selected
⌘A Select everything
⌘G / ⌘⇧G Group / ungroup
⌘⌥G Merge the selected groups into one (see 9.2)
⌘L Connect the two selected nodes
⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z Undo / redo (see 10.2)
⌘0 Fit to screen — lost track of the canvas? One press brings it all back
⌘+ / ⌘− Zoom in / zoom out
⌥⇧F Tidy up, re-laying out the scattered nodes
V / H Switch the pointer tool: Move (left-drag marquee-selects) / Hand tool (left-drag pans the canvas). The Pointer tool dropdown in the bottom toolbar prints these two keys as well

A short line flashes at the top of the screen telling you what just happened — grouping and tidying can move things that are off-screen right now, and without that echo you cannot tell whether nothing happened or you just cannot see it.

Mouse and trackpad

What you want Trackpad Mouse
Pan the canvas Two-finger drag Hold the middle button and drag, hold Space and drag, or press H for the hand tool and just left-drag
Zoom Pinch ⌘ + scroll
Marquee-select Press on empty space and drag out a box Same
Zoom into one node Double-click its picture Same
Duplicate a node Hold ⌥ and drag it Same
Duplicate it with its edges Hold ⌘⌥ and drag it Same

Hold ⌥ and drag a node away and a copy is left where it was (the one you are dragging is the original). What ⌥ leaves behind is a clean copy with no edges; what ⌘⌥ leaves brings its reference edges along, same as ⌘D. Groups work too — the nodes inside get copied with it.

Try it in DOTVReading only goes so far: open DOTV and make an AI video with the feature this section covers.
