Order and references

Order in DOTV's storyboard is not decoration: it is the order the nodes sit in on the canvas, and the order you watch the shots in. This section covers dragging to reorder, and how to see and change what a given item references — the little images under the frame, swapping out the reference images, and the thumbnails on the input bar.

Drag to reorder

The drag handleThe grip at the start of the row (it shows when you hover the card) means the card can be dragged. The whole card is draggable — you do not have to aim for it.

The handle at the head of the row, and the little reference thumbnails under the frame.
  • The whole card drags, so you do not have to aim for the handle at the head of the row — that handle is only a mark saying this card can be dragged.
  • A drag only counts once you have held and moved a little way, so a single click still opens the details and never gets swallowed.
  • What you drag is a copy of the card; a faded placeholder stays where it was, and the other cards move aside.
  • You can only reorder within one column: dragging a card from the image column into the video column does not count.
  • The key elements strip and the audio tiles reorder by dragging too.

The little images under the frame

That row of small images is what this item references — on the canvas, they are the wires running into it.

  • Click one = jump to the details of that reference (Edit in the right-click menu does the same thing). Press ‹ to come back when you are done (see 11.1).
  • They are in the order they were wired up; anything that was deleted stops showing.
  • Images a script node produced while preparing assets do not count as references — those are listed under that step in the full-screen shot sheet (see 6.5).

Swapping the reference images

Pick a reference imageIt shows the images already generated on the canvas (this one aside). Whatever is wired up comes in highlighted with a check in the corner; click to connect, click again to drop it. It takes effect right away — nothing to confirm.
Hit Reference on the detail input bar and this is what opens.

Picking references on the canvas means clicking the image itself, but the details are covering the image column and there is nothing to click, so this opens a window instead:

  • It shows the images already generated on this canvas, minus this item itself.
  • Anything already wired up is lit when the window opens, with a check mark at its top-right.
  • Click to connect, click again to disconnect, and it takes effect immediately — nothing to confirm, closing the window rolls nothing back, and the thumbnails on the input bar change as you go.
  • When there is not a single image yet, the window says No images available for reference yet, generate or upload one in the image column first.

The thumbnails on the input bar

That row is "which references this submission will carry":

  • Double-click one = go look at that reference (it scrolls to it in its own column and highlights it).
  • The × on a thumbnail drops that reference.
  • Typing @ in the prompt to pick an image that is not wired up yet also wires it in as a reference (see 10.5).
