Editing in place

Hover the picture in the details and a toolbar floats up above it — the same bar you see when that node is selected on the DOTV canvas. So "I have to go back to the canvas for this" no longer applies: crop, trim, remove subtitles and expression tuning all happen right here in the details, and what comes out still lands on the canvas. This section goes through the edits for images, video, audio and text in turn, and whether each one changes this item or makes a new one.

The image bar

The bar that floats up over the mediaFor images: Crop, Expression tuning, Multi-angle, Relight, Split grid, Edit frame, Upscale, Preset. One by one in chapter 3.
It only floats up when you hover the picture, and hides itself when you enter an editing mode.

From left to right: Skin texture (two items in the dropdown: Portrait tuning / Expression tuning), Panorama, Multi-angle, Relight, Grid (presets), the Edit dropdown (Upscale / outpaint / repaint / erase / cut out / crop, all six in one place — the button shows the one you used last), Element edit, Layer split, Split grid; after the divider a row of icons: Annotate, Rotate & flip, Crop, repaint, Publish style, download, full screen. For how each one works, see Chapter 3: 3.3 Edit frame, 3.4 Upscale and crop, 3.5 Reworking the picture, 3.6 Fifteen presets.

The video bar

Same for videoFor video: Trim, Crop, Remove subtitles, Upscale, Analyze, Audio separation. One by one in chapter 4.
The same bar, as it looks when the item is a video.

Audio and text

  • Audio — Trim and Speed. You drag the selection right on the waveform, and the action bar sits along its bottom edge (see 5.6).
  • Text — one button, Download text. The Write it yourself kind does not carry this bar: its toolbar is the formatting bar above the text, and download already sits at the end of that one (see 2.2).

Editing happens on this picture

Click Crop, Trim, Remove subtitles or Expression tuning — anything where you have to point at the picture — and the boxes lay themselves straight over the picture in the details:

  • The crop box, the face box and the subtitle box all scale with the picture and stay on it.
  • The confirm / cancel bar sits below the picture instead of on top of it — the subtitle you are boxing is on the picture, and a bar over it would hide the very thing you are looking at.
  • While you edit, the toolbar hides (two bars in one spot and neither is readable), and the video playback controls hide with it.

Does it change this one, or make a new one

Worth being clear about, because the two outcomes look completely different on the canvas:

Action Result
Crop Written back onto the item itself, non-destructively — the original image or clip is untouched, and clearing the crop brings the whole frame back
Trim, Remove subtitles, Upscale, Portrait tuning, Panorama, Multi-angle, Relight, Split grid, outpaint / repaint / erase / cut out, Audio separation, Analyze A new item appears next to the original node on the canvas, and the original stays
Trim, Speed (audio) Replaced in place by the processed clip

The new item also joins the matching storyboard column, and the details follow along to it (see 11.1).
